What Is Heat Pump Cover?

A heat pump cover plan is a monthly subscription that provides callout cover for heat pump breakdowns, often including parts and labour up to a specified limit. Most plans also include an annual service, making them a convenient all-in-one maintenance solution.

Typical Cover Plan Costs

  • Basic cover (callouts only): £12–£18/month
  • Standard cover (callouts + labour): £18–£25/month
  • Comprehensive cover (callouts + parts + labour + annual service): £22–£35/month

What's Typically Included

  • Unlimited callouts (subject to fair use)
  • Parts and labour for covered repairs
  • Annual service visit
  • 24/7 emergency helpline

Common Exclusions

  • Pre-existing faults at the time of taking out cover
  • Cosmetic damage
  • Repairs arising from poor installation
  • Ground source collectors or boreholes (ASHP cover only)
  • Repairs exceeding the specified parts limit (e.g., compressor replacement may have a cap)

Is It Worth It?

For a heat pump over 5 years old (outside manufacturer warranty), cover is often good value. A single callout fee (£75–£120) plus a repair could easily exceed the annual cost of a cover plan. For newer systems still under manufacturer warranty, assess whether the cover duplicates existing protection. The included annual service alone is worth £100–£150, making comprehensive cover plans excellent value for most homeowners.
